The Help by Kathryn Stockett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this book even though when I first began I thought I was going to hate it. The slang that was used was just really hard, at first, for me to understand. But, wanting to see what everyone was raving about, I just took my time and read slowly. After the first couple of chapters, it was easy and the language flowed.
Now, I'm not gonna get into the deeper racism, civil rights thing at the middle of the main story but rather focus on the beautiful character development and interaction between all the maids and their employer and Miss Skeeter. I really really enjoyed it immensely! It made me laugh and made me teary eyed, angry then elated! This is what I look for in a book and The Help really delivered!
This definitely goes on my read again shelf!

January Book Read of the Month at A Novel Gathering: Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon
The most anticipated story in the blockbuster Dark-Hunter series. The never-before-revealed story of the Dark-Hunter leader, Acheron. He was made human in order to escape death, but in death he was reborn a god. . .Book Description
Publication Date: August 5, 2008
Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. However, his human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then, brought back against his will, Acheron became the sole defender of mankind.
Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he’ll do anything to keep concealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.
Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.
War has never been more deadly... or more fun.
January Author of the Month at A Novel Gathering is...Ty Langston
Author Bio
As a
child, multi-published author Ty Langston loved to read about dragons and
knights so much that one day, her grandmother told her to "just write about
them." So she did.
From that day forward, she never left home without her pen, a notebook, and some kind of music playing in the background. Her love of reading expanded from fantasy into science fiction, and eventually into paranormal romance and erotica.
She enjoys different works from George Martin, Anne McCaffrey, Stephen King, and Jackie Collins. But some of Ty's favorite writers are from the world of TV and film: namely, Tudors creator Michael Hirst, and the late John Hughes.
Ty has a certificate in Broadcast Journalism along with a degree in Business Administration.
